Change isn't always better- Tale of the Chocolate licorice

So I was at Wal-Mart last night buying a few things and decided that I needed some chocolate licorice since I have not had any in a really long time (Christmas).  Chocolate licorice is something that brings dear memories from Grandma Shaws to Family trips, etc.  Not everyone likes it and some think it is weird, but in my family, chocolate licorice is the best.
Anyways, I get home, sit down on the couch and open up the bag of licorice to only be sorely disappointed:  They have changed the formula of chocolate Twizzlers!  I don't know how many people had had the twizzlers licorice that is rainbow colors and has tropical flavors and such.  It is more red-vine textured but not as good as red vines.  It is softer and quite frankly is not licorice.  Well, they have now changed the chocolate licorice to be like the open-ended softer rounder type and it stinks!   I used to love to texture and the pliability of Chocolate Twizzlers and now they have ruined it!  Unless they change back I am not going to buy chocolate licorice ever again.  I hope this is just an East-coast thing and those of you who are out in Utah can still enjoy real chocolate licorice.
As for me...  I am hoping Twizzlers will come to their senses and in the mean time I will write them letters asking them to change back.  I hope it will missserably fail and go back to the original formula.  So long Chocolate Licorice.

I sure hope it's an east coast thing. I would be extremely sad since chocolate licorice is definantly a family tradition. I love it and can easily eat several pieces without even noticing it. Maybe it would be a good thing if its changed? No, never mind!

I have to comment on this b/c I TOTALLY agree! First of all - you can't even buy the dang stuff in California and I bought some in Vegas a few months ago and it was totally different. Thick, gross, too chocolately, ugh. And no one feels our pain b/c the Shaw family and the Heaps family are the only people that keep that dang stuff in business. :)

I also agree - I mean what happened to the classic taste - but not even so much that - the texture is what kills me.

Anyway, thanks for commenting on / reading my blog - makes me happy. Check out the Holmes' as well if you get a second

In answer to your comment on my post about meeting people at BYU - I agree - the transition is hard, I think it's all just hard, but I really do feel that it's hard to meet new people - at least when you get settled into your major, when you've been at the same job for a long time, and when - like me - you've been in the same ward for 2 years. That's why I think we're moving to Condo row next year . . .

I am here to calm all of your nerves. I went to St. George last weekend and bought the Chocolate Licorice of our childhood and it was as good as we all remember. It is still there and available. I bought it at Maverick. It is so funny that you say that it is a Shaw thing because I really think that you are right because when I got married Ryan thought that I was crazy when I bought it for a road trip. Now he can't take one without buying it. If he buys it and it isn't the perfect consistancy he will put it on the dashboard and "cook" it in the sunlight to make it soft enough. He considers himself a chocolate licorice master now. Whatever, he should just change his name to Shaw.

Anyway, it is still available and delicious!! Don't worry.

I am so with you!!! My friend and I were just talking about this and I too will not buy chocolate licorice again! I am so sad about it because I eat like a bag a day and I am feeling really deprived! If we all write letters and let them know maybe something will change. My friend informed me that she has actually called them three times!

Oh and to Emily, you must have just gotten an old bag because I too went to Maverick in St.George and sadly enough, it is the new stuff!

If you go to the Hershey's Website, you can write them an email and I received an actual email back a few days later that was not just a form letter. If we all complain maybe they will change it back!
